Dorper: ‘RE: Five Great Reasons to Become an Atheist’ (Mirror/Transcription from Tumblr)

This is a re-upload of a post written by a Tumblr user with the screen name ‘Dorper’, on the now-closed dorper.tumblr.com. The post was made on 15 Jun. 2021, a dead link can be found here, and an archive on the Wayback Machine can be found here. I’m re-uploading it here because I find it useful and want it accessable. If you’re the creator and don’t want it here, let me know. Keep in mind that I am not the original writer of the text below, so it’s views are not necessarily my own. Let us begin:

1. You will be Free

Moore claims that you should be an Atheist so that you can be a hedonist. This is a bad reason to be an Atheist, however, it is why many people are Atheists. This is the reason that 50% of homosexual men are Atheists. People love sin and God gets in the way of that sin by telling them that the sin is destructive.

Moore claims that “morality derives from the evolution of human intelligence.” This does not make sense. Almost all eugenicists are Atheists. I am sure that Moore believes that eugenics is wrong. Eugenicists claim that eugenics is good because it improves the quality of the gene pool by removing the unfit. However, Eugenics can not be both good and evil. It must be one or the other. How does the “evolution of human intelligence” determine if Eugenics is good or evil? It can’t. Evolution can not determine if something is good or evil. Atheists like Moore claim that the Mosaic law was evil back then and is evil now, which does not make sense because the Mosaic law was the most ethical law system in the Near East.

2. Here is a chance to become more intelligent

Being an Atheist does not make you smarter. Becoming an Atheist does not flip a switch in your brain which makes your IQ skyrocket. People are intelligent in different areas. I wouldn’t call Moore dumb because he does not know the size of a x86 segment (16 bytes, btw). He likely has education in a different area.

Atheism might however make you think you are smarter than you actually are. The Dunning–Kruger effect is where people who know a little about a topic, think they know a lot. New Atheists suffer from the Dunning–Kruger effect similar to how new Christians suffer from convertitis. They read Dawkins and believe that they can debunk Christianity. I have seen Atheists trip up over basic Christian topics like the Trinity, Old–New Law, and even the historicity of Christ.

Moore says that Christians during the middle ages, “only had one answer” to scientific questions: God did it. It is important to note that Moore says only one answer. This is blatantly false. The Catholic Church has been at the forefront of scientific research for over a thousand years. Take René Descartes for example. He was a Catholic philosopher and scientist. He helped create the scientific method and kick-started the Scientific Revolution. He also created the Onotological Argument for the existence of God.

The claim that Atheism makes you smarter is not only nonsensical but also reeks of 2012 Reddit Atheism.

3. You will love your planet’s future

This does not make sense. You do not have to be an Atheist to care about the environment. Moore himself admits:

I am not indicating here that every religious person hates our planet, but religions play a great role to make people less enthusiastic about saving our planet.

Atheist China is a major contributer to Climate Change. Moore claims that because “26% of the [sic] Middle Easterners believe that Climate Change is a great problem right now” and the Middle East is majority Muslim, Muslims must not think that the environment is worth saving. The same study that Moore uses says that less than 20% of Atheist Chinese people are concerned with Climate Change. While over 80% of majority-Catholic Brazil is concerned with Climate Change. The same study Moore uses only has data from four Middle Eastern countries: Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, and Jordan. It turns out that liberal Israel is least concerned about climate change. And Israel is not even majority Muslim! Moore is really being dishonest here. How does “a lack in belief of God” have to do with your opinion on Climate Change?

4. No need to threaten others with the HELL-FIRE

Moore cites some scripture which warns Christians about Hell. Moore does not like the idea of being held accountable by a higher power. Moore then says that “people are erroneous and prone to make mistakes.” This is something that Christians agree with him on. He fails to understand that Christ was crucified so that our errors and mistakes could be forgiven. There is no sin that the Blood of Christ can not wipe away. Moore then can not wrap his head around the fact that if someone refuses God’s free offer for salvation, they will perish eternally.

Remember that the first reason that Moore gave us? Hedonism. Breaking God’s law. Moore does not want to live a moral life. He wants to live life in a way that benefits Moore. Don’t believe me? Then believe Moore. More says that the reason that he is an Atheist is that he “would never be able to feel safe” believing that the majority of humanity is going to Hell. He does not feel like he would be saved. So Moore wants to be a hedonist and does not want to be judged by a higher power for being a hedonist, so he is an Atheist. This is not a logical reason for being an Atheist but more of a cope.

5. “…killed in the name of atheism,” said no news channel ever

Moore spouts a bunch of myths about the Crusades and the Inquisition. Moore attacks both the Crusades and Jihad even though the Crusades were to prevent Jihad.

Moore then says this:

Now, how many people were killed in the name of atheism? Not even a single one.

This is false, completely false. After World War II, Christians in the USSR were forcibly sent to mental hospitals or jailed. Many were deprived of their parental rights. Atheist Republic themselves believe that raising a child Christian is child abuse. Child abuse is dealt with by taking away children from their parents. If Atheists do not believe that children should be taken away from their parents if their parents try to raise them Christian, then they are using the word “abuse” as a scare word and do not actually believe it to be abuse.

Atheists will say that the USSR was not true Atheism. But I respond that any Christian who commits terrorism is violating the commandment to “pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44). Atheism is a central part of Communism. Vladimir Lenin himself said:

Atheism is the natural and inseparable part of Communism.

So now it is clear that Communism is Atheist, lets see how many Christians were martyred by the Soviets. The answer is 12 to 20 million. 12 to 20 million people killed in the name of Antitheistic Communism.

Moore says that “a few [Atheists] can be egotistical or foolish or bigoted.” Those few can be found in the comment section of the Atheist Republic Facebook page. I have seen gems like calling for Christians to be shot, support for eugenics/population control, people calling theists retarded, and support for separating children from their parents if their parents baptize their child. You can feel the hate radiating from the comment section.

Summary

So the five great reasons for Atheism that Moore gave us were:

  1. Hedonism
  2. Thinking you are smarter
  3. Climate Change
  4. Hell
  5. Terrorism

These are really bad reasons. The worst would have to be the one about Climate Change as it has nothing to do with Atheism. None of the reasons that they gave were based on any scientific research. They could have gone for attacking biblical infallibility, but no, they went for Climate Change.
